What is Spiral Birth?

Spiral Birth: Perinatal Health & Equity is an independent maternal health education and reproductive justice platform focused on pregnancy, birth, postpartum, reproductive health, and birth justice education.

Spiral Birth originally began as a doula and childbirth education website. It has since evolved into a public-facing home for monthly virtual classes, reproductive education, maternal health resources, and information about my broader professional roles and collaborations in the perinatal health field.

Does Spiral Birth still offer doula services?

At this time, Spiral Birth is primarily focused on education, resources, and maternal health resource development.

The main ongoing offering through Spiral Birth is monthly virtual and in-person classes. However, there are doula directories listed in the resource section for those who are particularly looking for direct doula care and support.

What classes does Spiral Birth offer?

Spiral Birth offers monthly virtual classes, encompassing The Spiral Reproductive Health & Justice Educational series, related to period care, fertility, pregnancy, birth, postpartum, reproductive health, informed decision-making, and navigating care systems.

Spiral Birth classes are currently offered virtually. This allows people from different locations to access education without needing to travel.

In-person classes, workshops, or events are often announced either separately or collaborated upon with other existing organizations and institutions.

Who are Spiral Birth classes for?

Classes are designed for pregnant people, postpartum people, families, birth workers, community health workers, doulas, advocates, students, and anyone interested in maternal health, reproductive education, and birth justice.

These classes are also designed for professionals and community members who support pregnant, birthing, postpartum, or parenting people.

Do I have to live in Georgia to attend a class?

No. Virtual classes are generally open to people outside of Georgia. Some classes, however, may have a specific focus on Georgia-based law, policy, resources, or care systems.

When a class includes state-specific information, that will be clearly stated in the class description.

Do you train doulas?

Spiral Birth mainly provides doula training and certification via established contracted roles due to expanded roles and capacity restraints, but if your organization is interested, then you may reach out for further discussion. If desired, Spiral Birth may be able to refer you to some of the best available options that are consistent with the needs of your staff at the time.

Spiral Birth does still offer classes that are useful for doulas, birth workers, and perinatal staff on a wide range of topics that are listed here.

How often is the website updated?

Does Spiral Birth have social media?
