About Spiral Birth: Perinatal Health & Equity

What Spiral Birth Represents

Spiral Birth, founded by Victoria Snowden, brings together education, research, advocacy, and field-based maternal health work.

The current work includes serving in maternal health equity research, supporting regional perinatal initiatives, providing childbirth and reproductive health education, training birth workers and community-based staff, and helping build stronger support pathways for pregnant and postpartum people across South Georgia.

This work spans several connected areas:

Childbirth Education and Doula Training
Spiral Birth continues to offer virtual childbirth education classes and reproductive education. Spiral Birth also provides training and instruction for community-based maternal health staff, including doula education work with Mercer University’s Healthy Start staff.

Regional Collaboration and Systems-Building
Spiral Birth also serves as a place to document my expanding collaborations, affiliations, trainings, and contracted work with maternal health, reproductive justice, birth justice, and community care organizations. Much of this work focuses on South Georgia, where regional gaps in care, transportation, education, jail-based support, and postpartum follow-up require targeted, community-rooted solutions.

Classes and Public Education

Spiral Birth continues to offer monthly virtual classes focused on pregnancy, birth, postpartum, reproductive health, and navigating care systems.

Classes may include topics such as:

  • Childbirth preparation

  • Postpartum planning

  • Birth rights and informed consent

  • Reproductive health education

  • Self-advocacy in medical settings

  • Pregnancy and postpartum support for system-impacted families

  • Community-based maternal health education

These classes are designed for pregnant people, families, birth workers, community health staff, advocates, and anyone seeking grounded, accessible reproductive education.

A Regional Homebase for Birth Justice Work

Spiral Birth essentially serves also as a living archive of Victoria’s maternal health work, partnerships, projects, and field-building efforts.

This site will continue to grow as roles expand across maternal health research, program coordination, doula instruction, jail-based perinatal support, reproductive justice education, and regional maternal health systems development.

Spiral Birth exists to connect education with action, research with lived experience, and community care with structural change.
